Bill: Trans-Dovanian Railway Act

Details

Submitted by[?]: Dranland First Party (CC)

Status[?]: passed

Votes: This bill is a resolution. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.

Voting deadline: October 2607

Description[?]:

The Reform Party no longer holds the office for the Department of Foreign Affairs, but when we did, we recieved a message from the Foreign Affairs minister of asking our permission for a railway line to be built spanning several different countries, including our own. Each country that ratfies the agreement and agrees to have the railway built in their country also recieves a portion of the return from the venture. Full details regarding the proposal canbe found at the link below, which is the draft for the agreement.

We thought that we should put this to a vote and see how many seats are in favour of the railway. This is also a good channel for any ideas that parties may have regarding the railway, or suggestions on how to improve it.

MessageThe Reform Party is currently considering the idea, and weighing up the benefits and detriments of the railway.
We certainly think the idea has potential for augmenting transport and possibly trade between our country and others who are party to the railway. We are also partial to the idea that this railway will be a good source of revenue.
We do have some reservations about the proposal, but currently we have decided in favour of it. This may be subject to change, however, as the party is quite devided on this issue.

Message*note: there is an error in the description for this legislation. It should read that the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republica Socialista din Nou Endralôn was the one who sent us this proposal*

MessageWe are, however, conflicted over the idea that accepting this proposal would mean negotiating with communists, and co-operating with a communist country in the building of this railway. We do not like the concept that this agreement may bind us into some form of minor alliance with a communist country.

The Reform Party has put this issue to a vote within the party, and it has been revealed that a majority of members are opposed to it on the grounds that it will involve an agreement with and negotiations with communist parties and countries, and may also mean some form of alliance between our countries. The Reform Party is opposed to any form of communism and socialism in all forms, and does not negotiate with parties or countries of these ideologies.

We have decided to vote against this proposal for now.

MessageThe Sons of Liberty agree to this so long as the money for the railroad does not come from the citizens. As the only income right now is tariffs and the income tax on those who choose to pay it, little is readily available to put aside for this aside what is being stolen from the citizen.

On this principle, we would reject this offer.

However; we will be in favor if we can pass a resolution in the event of this treaty passing that relegates the cofunding on our behalf to private investors.
Already, former Sons of Liberty-based PMC Alpha Beta Veranda Security, operating out of Bayit Shel Quapitalizm, has offered to jointly sponsor up to 50% of the cofunding on the Dranian side of the railway along with the Destiny Arms Corporation based in Magadonia and the Fauxner Oil Company in Ulbrach.

These firms are willing to put the money out so that the private citizen isn't forced to pay for it. Along with the funding from the TDR's main company, much of this is already fronted; if we can pass this and call for investors, we believe that easily the businesses of the Respublica will be able to fund this without a single cent being taken from the citizen.
