MessageOOC: The GOP might like to look at the fact freddy and fanny are the tip of an iceberg, and were not the real problem in that case. The real problem now, is the IndyMac-type institutions, one of which has already required an emergency bail-out, and upto a hundred and fifty of which are expected to need the same kind of help, or else they'll fold.

'Competition' in banks is a joke. The purpose of a bank is to hold, and mobilise currency. You can't make that 'product' any cheaper than a government run industry (which is well regulated) could do it. Private banks are just a way of allowing venture capitalists to get rich off a service which can easily be provided 'free' by the government.
