Voting deadline: August 2608
Description[?]:
In order to guarantee that the energy generated by the generation facilities is forwarded to the energy consumer suppliers in a cost effective and service guaranteed way, the National Grid will be operated by a publicly owned company. This company can guarantee infrastructural safety and service quality more readily than the Private company due to its ability not to have any requirement to return high levels of profits to its investors and shareholders. The company will operate in such a way so as to provide the infrastructure and energy delivery services at, or just above, cost so as to allow the largest freedom for energy consumer suppliers to guarantee the lowest possible charges to the consumer. However, in order to take advantage of the reduced costs to the consumer available through the Private Sector, whilst reducing the costs to the Government, the energy bought from the National Grid will be purchased by Private Companies which will be allowed to compete with each other to provide the highest possible service provision to the consumer. To this end, there will be limited regulation on the maximum costs, so as not to make power a utility that is only available for the select few, but within the guidelines, competition is free and open. Should private individuals wish to produce their own power for their homes, through the use of houseboard generators/solar panels etc, they are freely allowed to do so. They may also sell any left over energy production to the National Grid at a price agreed by the two parties. |

Message | This is difficult to chose as there is one good and one bad policy |

Message | We believe that this would be an overall improvement to the current situation. Having the State own the national grid allows all power supply companies to operate at the same competitive starting point without the risk that the cost to them is at a position that would be detrimental to their purchasing position whilst also guaranteeing that vital national infrastructure is owned and maintained by an accountable organisation rather than the current risky position that allows private companies to place profit above maintenance and service provision, whilst allowing the private companies to operate in the part of the market where they operate better than the State, that in an area where there are often rapid where consumer demand dictates pricing and provision. |
