Bill: Sexual Liberation Act II

Details

Submitted by[?]: Unified Communist Labor Party

Status[?]: defeated

Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.

Voting deadline: July 2041

Description[?]:

Endralon is a country where all workers are required and/or strongly encouraged to become members of labor unions.

Therefore, it makes no sense to deny someone the right to participate in a profession simply because that profession is dangerous or may be considered by some moralists to be degrading or exploitative.

Since all workers will have the protection of a union, then that will also apply to sex workers. Someone who wants to prostitute himself should have that right, and have the protection of a union to ensure that he or she gets free disease testing, free contraceptives, and any other forms of protection that he or she needs to feel safe and secure in his or her chosen profession.

The logic of this act is the same as the logic of legalizing porn. All industries under capitalism are exploitative. Banning one form of exploitation while ignoring the systemic nature of the exploitation itself is hypocrisy.

MessageWe would like to criticize the faulty logic of the Unified Labor Party: Just because all industries under capitalism are a form of exploitation, that does not mean that all capitalist exploitation MUST be eliminated at the same time. As you know, we are unable to fully eliminate capitalist exploitation at the present time, so we're trying to get rid of as much of it as we can.

Banning one form of exploitation is PROGRESS towards the eventual elimination of all exploitation.

MessageAnd, again, we see no reason to allow prostitution. If the would-be prostitutes wish to have sex, let them do it for free. If they don't wish to have sex but need the money, they should be helped to get a different job.

MessageSeriously, what's the basis of your objection to people having the freedom to sell themselves for sex? If someone wants to be a prostitute, why shouldn't he be allowed to? I don't see why you feel like you have the right to deny people the freedom to choose a career.

MessageBecause it's a degrading career that most people choose only out of desperation. Because it allows for horrible abuse. Because it is exploitative. Because there's no reason why people can't have sex for free and work at an actually productive job at the same time. And finally, because it encourages bigotry, sexism and the commodification of women. Enough reasons for you?

MessageThe reason people choose it only out of desperation now is because there are no protections--it's a dangerous, disease-ridden, horrible career. If we legalize it and make it a safe and lucrative option, why shouldn't people have the right to do it? We can also eliminate the abuse and exploitation through legalization.

How exactly does prostitution encourage bigotry or sexism? Aren't both of those things just a product of capitalist social engineering and the fact that again, currently prostitution is a degrading, illegal and dangerous profession? Legalize prostitution, give it legitimacy, make it safe and lucrative for people, and you take away those problems.

Commodification of women? Under capitalism, everyone and everything is a commodity. What changes if we legalize prostitution?

MessageProstitution in itself is exploitation and abuse which can never be eliminated no matter how safe or legitimate it is made. It certainly does encourage sexism and bigotry towards women by turning them into sexual commodities in the minds of some men and we don't understand why the FLP are opposed to the elimination of this particularly horrific consequence of capitalism.
