Bill: The Nationalism Act

Details

Submitted by[?]: Berosian Party

Status[?]: defeated

Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.

Voting deadline: April 2610

Description[?]:

Our taxpayers' dollars should be used to help them, not other countries. Let private charity and industry do a better job in giving relief to other nations. If people do not want to give their money to those in need, they should not have to.

If we're going to steal our citizens' money through taxes, let's put them to good use, and support our own country.

MessageThe problem is... industry and charity don't do a better job. Hell, most of the time they don't even do a worse job. They just don't do anything.

The same is true of other, less scrupulous nations.

Also, of course.... given our history, we can use all the publicity we can get.

MessageWhy should we care what other countries think of us? Why should we change our policy just so other nations will like us? Shouldn't we do what's best for us?

Also, unfortunately, it is usually not a region's fault that they require this kind of aid. It is usually the fault of an oppressive government that has no regard for the rights of its citizens. As such, by giving them this aid, we are only supporting the oppressive regime of a government that will only be destructive towards the country.

Private charities, on the other hand, allocate the funds where they wish, giving the aid directly to the people and institutions that need it. The people that donate to these charities know exactly where their money is going, and exactly what it's doing.

By taking people's money through taxes and giving it to other countries, the people do not know where it's going, or what it's doing, and it is usually being used to fund the continued oppression of innocent civilians.

MessageThe Berosiams create a false dichotomy. Just because OUR government is an instrument of the charity, doesn't mean we're sponsoring a regime. You can direct-apply charity via OUR government, just as easily as through OUR churches.

MessageWe can agree with this legislation, however, we would rather not make it so we "never offer international aid". Giving aid to countries for disaster relief should be acceptable. This is an improvenment over current legislation though.

MessageI agree with the traditional conservative party. I think that aid should be given to only countries that despertly need it. Not that I am saying hand out money to every single disaster in the world, because i think we should make our country as great as it can be... then deal with the others. I will have to say no to this bill but if it is revised it will be a yes.

Random fact: Particracy does not allow real-life brand names (eg. Coca Cola, McDonalds, Microsoft). However, in the case of military equipment brand names it is permitted to use simple number-letter combinations (eg. T-90 and F-22) borrowed from real life, and also simple generic names, like those of animals (eg. Leopard and Jaguar).
