[OOC] Since there is a stickified thread in general discussion asking us to assign ourselves some domains... [IC] »It is time we set up an exact internet domain list for our own nation.« ~Natasha Goldstein (Goldstein Corporation) BE IT ENACTED by the Senate of the Republica Baltusia, let it be resolved that: 1) There be four set of primary prefixing internet domains assigned to sites based in the Republica Baltusia: ***(A) bt.inter.* — Assigned to sites within Baltusia that may be accessed anywhere. ***(B) bt.intra.* — Assigned to sites within Baltusia that may only be accessed by those within Baltusia. ***(C) corp.inter.* — Assigned to Baltusian sites operated by multinational, for-profit, publicly-traded corporations. These sites may be accessed anywhere. ***(D) corp.intra.* — Assigned to Baltusian sites operated by multinational, for-profit, publicly-traded corporations. These sites may only be accessed by those within Baltusia. 2) There be a set of secondary prefixes that secede the primary prefixing internet domains: ***(A) *.com.* — Assigned to sites run by a for-profit privately traded company. ***(C) *.org.* — Assigned to sites run by non-profit organizations. ***(D) *.rl.* — Assigned to sites run by a religious organization. ***(E) *.gov.* — Assigned to sites run by or affiliated with the Baltusian government. ***(F) *.sn.* — Assigned to sites that are part of a social networking organization. ***(G) *.excl.* — Assigned to all sites that require special membership to view beyond a login page. ***(H) *.ntwk.* — Assigned to all sites that have not been registered as any of the above categories. 3) There be a set of suffixing internet domains assigned to sites based in the Republica Baltusia: ***(A) *.edu — Assigned to sites belonging to universities, colleges, academies, and vocational/technical schools. ***(B) *.ys — Assigned to sites belonging to preschools and primary and secondary schools. ***(C) *.blog — Assigned to all blogs. ***(D) *.pol — Assigned to all political webpages. ***(E) *.news — Assigned to all news pages. ***(F) *.rss — Assigned to RSS feeds. ***(G) *.net — Assigned to all other webpage types. THIS SHALL TAKE EFFECT immediately upon its passing in the Senate by majority vote. Message | Well let's see, a) those addresses are ridiculously long and convoluted and b) you've assigned no domain name for porn and that's just poor form. |

Message | @Txurruka/Aperribai/Mayoz's OPX: "you've assigned no domain name for porn and that's just poor form." Why do we need one? I think the names and addresses of the sites themselves should be pretty obvious indicators as to the sites being porn. |

Message | As for convolution, the people just have to know the site; they don't need to understand the system. The domains help speed the networking along... really. |

Message | If people don't or can't understand the system, that makes the system kind of pointless. Ostensibly, your idea to make it systematic and thus easier to remember. However, its too much. As you say, you "just have to know the site". If you already have to remember, for example, opx.com, how is having to remember bt.intra.com.opx.pol easier? |

Message | "If you already have to remember, for example, opx.com, how is having to remember bt.intra.com.opx.pol easier?" You don't have to remember more; you know that it's not a corporate site, and thus begins with "bt," you know that it can only be accessed within the nation and thus is "intra," you know it's for-profit and thus is "com," and you know it's a political site and therefore ends with "pol." If you know the nature of the site you're going to, the only thing you ever have to remember is "opx." People rarely forget whether a site is ".org," ".net," ".gov," ".edu," or ".com," or whatever, and people rarely forget whether a site has a "www" or not. If you're typing random web addresses into your address bar without knowing what you want, you're going to have trouble. But if you know that you are looking for the OPX website, you won't have problem remembering the address because you know the nature of the organization. |

Message | And if you've never been to a site before, there are search engines. That's usually where you start when looking for a site (unless it's given to you beforehand). |

Message | Your argument makes it seem as if this new system offers no other advantages over the current one other than the fact that its far more organised. Is it really worth investing time and money into this to satisfy the anal retentives of this world? It also suffers the notable disadvantage of people having to remember more suffixes and prefixes. Also, what's wrong with the current system (i.e. non-regulation)? |

Message | Since this seems to have been argued out can we either delete the bill or bring it to a vote? |

Message | »"Is it really worth investing time and money into this to satisfy the anal retentives of this world?" Considering our servers and computers happen to be part of that "anal retentive" crowd, it would actually save plenty of computing power, money, and productivity if we were to adopt the new system. We're simply giving regulation to the system so that we claim the ".bt" domain internationally. We'd also like to claim the ".corp" domain as well.« ~Natasha Goldstein (Goldstein Corporation) |

Message | "Considering our servers and computers happen to be part of that "anal retentive" crowd, it would actually save plenty of computing power, money, and productivity if we were to adopt the new system." I find that hard to believe. Have you got a justification for that or are you just making it up? Seems to me that more subdivisions means more queries. "We're simply giving regulation to the system so that we claim the ".bt" domain internationally. We'd also like to claim the ".corp" domain as well.«' That's not what your bill says. If that's what you want, why don't you propose that? |

Message | because it will accomplish nothing. The Goldstein Corporation got the bill passed but the moderation is going to take your side so there's no use discussing it. This is what causes inactivity in Congress. |
