MessageWe would expect more than just listing. Remember - use of pesticides by one farmer effects every farmer, every nature reserve that shares the water table, and everyone downstream, too. It's not just an issue of consumption, it's an issue of indirect damage to others' property.

"We're opposed on the grounds that the chemicals used aren't harmful whatsoever to humans."
Even if there was proof of that, it doesn't preclude farmers from beginning to use products which are.
Insect-poison (except in negligible dosage) tends to be harmful to humans as well, surprisingy enough - it's just that it tends not to get that far. Mistakes are still made.

MessageWe are fundamentally opposed to the use of pesticides. Pesticides have a demonstrably carginogenic effect on the population and the eco-system, and we therefore support any Bill which limits their use.

We would be prepared to support a Bill banning their use, but are prepared to accept this compromise for the short term.

MessageAnd if it weren't for pesticides, we would have less crops due to the insects and bugs that feed on those crops.

MessageOrganic farmers manage to avoid the use of most pesticides (prefering to use natural alternatives, such as coffee grounds to get rid of slugs).

This Bill does not ban the use of pesticides, it merely asks that farmers list the pesticides they use. Chemicals such as dioxin / DDT are dangerous to humans and the food chain. Listing them allows consumers the choice in whether or not to purchase food tainted with chemicals.

If consumers choose to buy food without specific pesticides, or grown organically, then the use of pesticides will fall, as farmers adjust their farming techniques. If they choose to buy more of the pesticide-treated produce, then farmers will use more of them,

It just provides the consumer with the knowledge to make an informed choice about the products they consume.

Random fact: Players consent to the reasonable and predictable consequences of the role-play they consent to. For example, players who role-play their characters as committing criminal offences should expect those characters to experience the predictable judicial consequences of that.

Random quote: "One day our descendants will think it incredible that we paid so much attention to things like the amount of melanin in our skin or the shape of our eyes or our gender instead of the unique identities of each of us as complex human beings." - Franklin Thomas
