Bill: Abolition of the Monarchy

Details

Submitted by[?]: Oh Gnoez Party

Status[?]: passed

Votes: This bill asks for an amendement to the Constitution. It will require two-thirds of the legislature to vote in favor. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.

Voting deadline: April 2618

Description[?]:

With all due respect to His Imperial Excellency, Emperor of the Pontesian Empire, Commander In Chief of the Imperial Guard and Pontesian Armed Forces and Defender of the Faith of the Anglican Church of Pontesi, Emperor Andrew I, it has become clear that dear Pontesi has outgrown its need for an authoritarian figure. We believe that it is time to make like goats and develop a certain amount of independence for ourselves. Therefore we move to abolish the throne and transform Pontesi into a true democracy.

MessageWe only see the attempt to destroy Pontesi culture and history here. The empire have been enjoying its democracy and independence with the Emperor as a head of state. We believe that this should be considered a treason to the empire.

This is totally unacceptable by PIM and we will refuse to recognize this government as legitimate if this bill pass.

MessageOh, come now. It's 2617 and you're telling me that a monarchy is at all reasonable? To use an argument I'm sure you would use for many things if you replaced a few words: there is no need for the government to intervene in the maintenance of a monarchy; if the people wish for there to be a monarchy then the market will provide for one. Let the people revere Andrew as they wish, but it's time to stop making him a state institution.

MessageConstitutional Monarchy is reasonable and fair. The Emperor have no power in politics and we accept him as a symbol of unity in the nation. Capitalist can only go so far and we will return the Emperor to the power. Government have no provision to decide that they can refuse to accept a tradition and history of Pontesi.

OOC: There is no "Pontesia" It's either Pontesi as a nation or Pontesian for people.

MessageThis bill is not a refusal to accept anything. It's a refusal for the government to endorse the defunct idea of "empire". It is time for us to graduate beyond government-sponsored hereditary title. Andrew I may call himself whatever he pleases once this bill passes, and we people of the Goat Party will certainly show great respect for him, but I think you'll find that the people will be much less outraged by this than the all of you in the PIM.

As for the Conservative Union Party, I would kindly ask you not to comment on the legality of a monarchy in Pontesi and demand a cessation of our work. I'm sure you have more important things to do than that.
