Message | We think there needs to be a clear distinction between simply off-color comments, or individual opinions...and "malicious falsehoods". If the slander is spoken in a conscious attempt to discredit, humiliate, or otherwise emotionally damage the slandered individual, then there should be appropriate action taken. Simply saying "I think so-and-so is a jerk" should not be grounds for slander suits, while saying (to a single person or group of people) "So and so cheats on his taxes and does cruel experiments on baby ducks" would be slander. ((And a bit silly, but that's beside the point..)) |
