MessageTreating foreign soldiers according to international standards is the best way of ensuring that our own soldiers, should they be captured, will also be treated according to international standards.

MessageWe do not believe that is strictly true, they will treat our prisoners however their laws dictate. We can also not be sure or rely on the fact that internationally accepted standards are good. It is safer to set the standards ourselves so we go on what we think is morally right and not other states which could fall into control of harsh regiemes.

Mark Finnant,
Defence Minister.
