Message | The purpose of this act is to prevent a situation where the government could use libel laws to shut down the opposition press, and thereby eliminate any effective public voice for the opposition. In effect, the intent of this law is to protect freedom of the press. OOC: An example I am currently thinking of is the government of Singapore, which overwhelms the opposition with libel suits and fines in order to silence criticism and maintain power. |
