Bill: The Anti-Hate Speech Act of 2634

Details

Submitted by[?]: Socialist Party of Aldegar

Status[?]: defeated

Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.

Voting deadline: November 2634

Description[?]:

Hate speech is the root of many problems. It exposes the bitter inner thoughts of human thinking at the back of the mind it and seeks to bring that out and create a more hateful and discriminate society. We must stand against this threat which is as bad as terrorism and war and tell the hate mongers that Aldegar will not be manipulated.

Messagehm...here we are encroaching on freedom of speech. again.
we guess you may wanna call works of critique 'hate speech' as well.
the problem doesn't lie there, but how media viewers interpret it. so if you want to cut the root, educate them of awareness first, then talk of change.

MessageOpposed.
Firstly, we see this as a free speech issue. While we despise and abhor racism and bigotry of all kinds, we feel that this law creates a dangerous precedent, which could be used by future governments to justify intrusions on other types of speech. Laws of this kind can very easily be twisted by unscrupulous governments into barring the speech of political opponents.

Secondly, we feel that this law would not do much, in the case of a genuine fascist movement or some such thing, to actually stop that movement. Many other countries have hate speech laws, however that has not stopped certain intolerant and bigoted movements from becoming a major political force.

Thirdly, we feel that this law might actually help some of those movements. First, they can shout and scream about how their "free speech" is being denied. This would gain them sympathy from some people and obscure the fact that, in actualitiy, they are opposed to freedom. This law would also force those groups to speak in "code words", thereby obscuring their true nature and allowing them to gain broader appeal. We feel that allowing the bigoted and intolerant to spew the full force of their venom, thereby showing everyone else their true hideousness, is better than encouraging them to speak in code, and thus potentially giving them a bigger number of supporters.

MessageOur policy is based on the promoting the precent of "good thoughts, good words, good deeds." Encouraging good thoughts and good words can only result in an increase of good deeds. And the converse is true as well.

There is no reason for anyone to use hate speech. To permit it lays the seeds for hate actions.

MessageHate speech is an opinion. And we believe everyone has the right to express what they think and believe.

MessageHate speech is whatever the government wants it to be at the time. If people have bitter thoughts work to educate them, not enslave them.
