Message | "Given that there is a huge surplus, was there even a reason for this proposal to be brought forward? The only thing that this accomplishes is to pull money from the economy unnecessarily. This affects the amount of revenues that businesses bring in and therefore the profit margins of businesses, and as a result, the amount of jobs available in the economy and the level of investment, which again, affects the number of jobs available. I can think of only one word to describe this action: irresponsible. That seems to be a common theme among the economic proposals of the FAP and PC lately." -Nicolaas van der Burgh Chairman of the HNP Minister of Finance DM for Graaffsberg South |

Message | The clue lies in the name, "luxury". We would never impose the same tax on actually needed items, but on those which are not "needed", only "wanted" there is no reason why not the raise tax from it. Our surplus is too large, we should invest in some critical areas of the budget further, or cut income tax. |

Message | this tax brought out surplus to 60 billion to over 200 billion. This tax is only for luxury goods, not food tax, or tax on corporations. In the end result, the citizens will be getting free phone lines out of this. I pretty good trade-off if you ask me. |
Date | 22:38:33, September 26, 2008 CET | From | Wiedervereinigten Nationalisten | To | Debating the Sales Tax (Abolition) Act 2643 |
Message | "This tax will result in price increases by businesses to try to make up for their losses on having this tax imposed on the sale of their goods, which will result in a reduced demand for those goods, and therefore will negatively affect the economy of Greater Hulstria. It's very simple." -Nicolaas van der Burgh Chairman of the HNP Minister of Finance DM for Graaffsberg South |
