Details

Submitted by[?]: Populist Liberal Party

Status[?]: passed

Description[?]:

Whereas private schools, including religious schools, allow children from wealthy families choices that other children do not, and

Whereas unscrupulous private schools, under current law, can profit off of parents' ignorance while providing inferior educations, and

Whereas some school choice is needed but this can come from charter schools, we hereby propose to ban private schools, religious or secular, but liberalize the laws on nonprofit charter schools.

MessageThis is unlikely to pass, but at the very least will let the nation know where we stand on education.

But think about it...equality of opportunity...all parents having the same choices. No matter how one feels about religious schools, eliminating them is necessary if private schools are eliminated, or there are public religious schools.

MessageIf this bill is passed, then I shall complain the World Jewish Congress, that one of their members (KPP) is trying to ban Jewish schools.

MessageI'm surprised that that threat is, as Jewish people, being a minority religion outside Israel, tend to vote in a very secular manner in other countries...thus, the WJC would be likely to have no problem with all education being secular.
