Bill: Trade For Aid!

Details

Submitted by[?]: Telamon National Party

Status[?]: defeated

Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.

Voting deadline: May 2122

Description[?]:

I think just giving aid to the goverments of poor nations is wrong, we should provide more trade were the money goes to the people and not to corrupt goverments. We will still be providing aid but as long as we can trade with them nations. What good is aid if corrupt goverments are hording the aid?

MessageYou do have a point, i believe that if a government is not distrubuting the aid properly, we should tie it. But then we would look bad internationally if so.

Messagewe would be trading with them, so we would be giving them money for there surplus resources. The money will be going directly to the people and not the goverment. The goverment will only get the taxes.

MessageTied aid isn't the best way of distributing wealth. We agree that fairer trade practices should be enforced globally, but note that buying favour in foreign markets adversly affects those industries at home (as third world countries tend not to be consumer economies). Tied aid also has no affect on corruption, as the money still ends up in the hands of the government. All forms of aid should be directed through respected organizations who practice open bookkeeping. This is independent of the amount of aid given, or the method

Message1. How can they give us extra resources, if they're giving us aid? Wouldn't it be far more beneficial to sell of any extra resources...or store it for future use?

2. Governments would not agree regardless, you either have dictatorships, that say give the money to them and they promise to give it to the people. Or, Democracies, that are dire need of aid, but as they are democracies, why would you want to tie their aid? Isn't that just mean...we know the money would go to the people in that case.

On further reflection, i cannot agree.
