Bill: Gov.0025.2652

Details

Submitted by[?]: 帝国公明党 (Teikoku Kōmeitō)

Status[?]: defeated

Votes: This bill asks for an amendement to the Constitution. It will require two-thirds of the legislature to vote in favor. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.

Voting deadline: April 2653

Description[?]:

While the initiative has failed in the past (primarily to abstaining) we feel it is the correct time to
propose changing the national anthem.

We believe this should be done for the following reasons;
-The current anthem is ephemeral and has little to do with Sekowo.
-The city of Carcosa no longer exists.
-It is the last remnant of the Aretic age and while not supporting any of the tenants of Aretism
itself is still a symbol of that terrible part of our history.

MessageWe feel that the new anthem, although well composed, is sugar-coated and shallow. It almost sounds like the insincere propaganda chants of a despotic country, the rulers of which that are trying to cover up their true nature with nice phrases like "hope of the future" and "resounding cry of freedom." The current anthem unabashedly commemorates the Aretist past and reminds us that true despondency and injustice once did exist in "lost Carcosa," and it motivates the nation to avoid such mistakes in the future. Also, it is an ancient anthem that has existed for the entirety of the current Republic's history. It cannot be simply replaced, and we cannot forget "the symbols of our terrible past" just by covering them up with flowers and perfume.

MessageOOC:
Ya know that made me think of something, have we ever really been a Republic?
Sekowo started off as a Union, which was sometimes democratic and sometimes not, then we became a Federation and then became what we are now, a Federal Commonwealth.

Point I'm getting at here is that Sekowo is unique in that we've never been a Republic, atleast we've never had the word Republic in our name.

MessageWe agree with many of the sentiments of the AUP. Additionally, we think the new anthem would be bad for Sekowo's image (as other nations consider us self-centered enough as is).

MessageMy definition of Republic is "a political entity whose head of state is not a monarch" with the optional addition of "and which has a legislature that represents the politically enfranchised portion of the populace."
