Bill: Foreign Embassy Act 2652

Details

Submitted by[?]: Conservative Party of Tukarali

Status[?]: defeated

Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.

Voting deadline: July 2653

Description[?]:

Regulations for the establishment and operation of embassies of nations within Tukarali

All foreign states shall have to apply for the right to open an embassy in Tukarali. Applications, however, shall only be denied on the grounds that
I. Tukarali does not recognise the applicant state.
II. Tukarali does not recognise the nations government as legitimate.
III. The state in question is currently at war with Tukarali.
IV. There is a DEFINITE* link to the applicant state to any group considered by the United Tribes of Tukarali as being terrorist.

*Grounds to support that a state is sponsoring terrorism will be that the legislature is in a 2/3 majority agreement that this is the case. The Great Chieftain and Foreign Minister will have power of veto however.

MessageWe should not be in the game of recognising states. We choose to have dealings with a government or we don't, that is all.

Having embassies for all nations is a good thing though.

MessageNo. That means that our party could declare independence for Boruska and Tukarali would have to recognise our embassy as a valid state even though we are in a tiny majority. It is dangerous not to be in the game of recognising states as it would be very easy to ire other legitimate nations if we recognised break away states regardless of how they were formed. The current law is liberal to the point of dangerous.

MessageYou go ahead and do that; declare independence. We, as a nation, will have no dealings with you.

End of story.

No.

MessageExactly as WLD says. Feel free to rent a building in Sangon and call it the Boruskan embassy. Watch as the Tukarali government ignores it and continues to regard Boruska as part of Tukarali. It would not be that we don't recognise the Republic of Boruska (nor is the converse true), it would be that we choose to have no dealings with any such purported government.

MessageBut do you not see how it would anger other nations if we allow unofficial breakaway states to have embassies on our soil????

MessageQuite the opposite. We allow anyone to do that, there is no "allowing" as such, since we are just not disallowing it. If we have to give permission for embassies, then we have to decide whether or not to recognise a seceding state, and that is a lose-lose situation for us.
