MessageAbsolutely!

ooc: IRL I think prison is a terrible punishment, better to enslave or mandate indentured servitude for people than prison. If they are really bad just kill them, and be done with it. If they can be reformed make them work it off with intense community service / retraining. Prisons breed evil.

Messageooc: Prisons are too expensive, and prisoners are treated better than some hard working people in society. Prisons should not give criminals rewards, they are there to be punished! I think they should work off their debt to society.

Messageooc: I agree with the conclusion, they should work off their debt. Prisoners are pretty severely abused in the US and other less civilized places (those which have amnesty international complaining about them for instance). I have long heard that the UK and Europe have nice prisons someone might want to retire in or visit for a vacation. Jails in the US, Iran or Russia (the countries w the most people imprisoned) aren't so nice, never-mind China or Egypt or North Korea ;)

So for the good of EVERYONE (criminals included), I say we either enslave or execute them, no prisons.

Messageooc: In real life, I am actually against the death penalty (some of my Catholic convictions), but I do support convict labor, ranging from litter pick-up to fruit orchard harvesting to in-prison assembly-line production, to mineral mining...but I am not going to go as far as to support slavery. Indentured servitude is about as far as I'll go.

Messageooc: and prisons are often the source of more intense criminal behavior in individuals...in prison, people often work out, get stronger and go through experiences (prison fights, or getting tossed salad...if you need to ask, tossed salad is nasty and involves the derriere) that make them into even more hardened criminals.

In real life, I support forced labor for harder criminals and rehabilitation and prison education for minor criminals.

Messageooc: death penalty would be good if we knew they were irredeemable. The problem is sometimes we don't even know for certain they are guilty...

Either way, prison is a proven failure, it consistently makes people worse. Something else must be done.

Messageooc: the death penalty is the #1 deterrent to crime. For example, in South Africa, most rape victims are women under 14, since AIDS is significantly less prevalent in that part of the population. Criminals don’t fear authority, they fear death.

Messageoc: I don't believe it. Crimes of violence are not committed due to the laws, or the penalties, but rather due to the culture. South Africa seems to have a terrible culture, with lots of rapes and a recent epidemic of violence against foreigners:

Random fact: Cultural Protocol bills must provide a real-life equivalent or short description for the ethnic groups, languages and religions contained in them, such that it would be easy for an unfamiliar player to understand (e.g. "Dundorfian = German"). Where appropriate, they should also provide guidance to players on where to find help with translations and character names. This might include, for example, links to Google Translate, Behind the Name's Random Name Generator and Fantasy Name Generators.

Random quote: "Blah blah blah- I'm more of a Leftist than all you puppets... You support cops beating people down and kicking out all the foreigners..." - Omar al-Khali, former Kalistani politician
