Bill: Budget proposal of December 2654
Details
Submitted by[?]: Beluzian Defense and Federalist Party
Status[?]: passed
Votes: This bill proposes to change the allocation of funds in the budget. It requires more than half of the legislature to vote yes. This bill will pass as soon as the required yes votes are in, or will be defeated if unsufficient votes are reached on the deadline.
Voting deadline: August 2655
Description[?]:
The Beluzian Defense and Federalist Party propose to adjust the government's spending budget to better address the economic and social situation of the United Kingdom of Beluzia and Bailon. We need to spend less. We generate very little income from taxes right now, and are spending ourselves into debt. We cant even come close to getting into the green, so this is the first in a series of budget cuts designed to improve the Beluzian economy. |

Message | 56% of all money cut from the budget was cut from defense. It is not good monetary policy to cut a significant amount from any one area, thus why they are spread out over all fronts. Besides, defense is, and always should be the primary job of the federal government, since local governments play little to no role in it. |

Message | Local militias are useless Unless we want to fight an insurgency like the militias are doing in Iraq, but they don’t have any real control of their country. And a well armed ruthless opponent like the Rutanians would make short work of our militias. We need tanks, artillery, apcs, ships, plans and submarines if we are going to stand a chance in a modern war. |

Message | The truth is that superpowers always end up being defeated by local militias. Remember the fall of the roman empire? Who beat the US in vietnam, somalia, Iraq or Afghanistan? The British empire at its zenith was defeated by a citizens militia in america... |

Message | The Roman Empire and the British were NOT examples of modern warfare. Vietnam and Somalia are examples of limited war. In the case of Somalia, they didn’t really have any true political control over the country; they managed to kill a few Americans and forced us to pull out. Rest assured that if the US military wanted to make Mogadishu into a parking lot, they could have. Same is true with Vietnam, only because the US military held back many of its assets was the war “won” by the Vietnamese. Also the significant Chinese and Russian support the Vietnamese were receiving was a critical factor. Iraq is also a bad example. Define "winning.” If we were to defend our country like Saddam did, our government as we know it would cease to exist, much like Saddam’s did after the initial invasion of Iraq. Insurgencies don’t win wars: they just make people lose them. |
