MessageIf citizens cannot directly choose their local government, it destroys the effectiveness of devolution. Unless the people have power over their local government, their government will not use its powers to react to the needs of the people. We will not support this bill.

MessageWrong; this would allow the elected local government to not be locally elected, thereby negating the interests of the local constituency they were intended to serve. The purpose of devolution is to put power closer to the hands of the people, and this proposal would distance power from the people, putting it unrightfully in the hands of the government.
