| Message | Because the flag is a merely a symbol used to represent our nation, it is not some sort of holy relic which requires worship. The right to protest and disagree is a fundamental right of a citizen of a democratic nation. Often burning the flag of a nation is a symbol of protest used by those who feel abandoned or disenfranchised by their nation. Rather then punish them, wouldn't it be better to fix the cause of their protest? Give them something to be thankful for and proud of and watch them wave our flag with pride. What would your punishment be for someone who burnt the flag? Jail time? Fines? |
