Bill: "Alorian First" Implementation Act

Details

Submitted by[?]: Genuine Progress Alliance

Status[?]: defeated

Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.

Voting deadline: January 2686

Description[?]:

This bill aims to implement the "Alorian First" program. This program aims to promote Alorian industries and businesses and encourage Alorians to support these industries by imposing quotas and tariffs on the goods being imported to our country. This will help businesses in Aloria prosper, and will benefit more Alorians.

Now that we have withdrawn from The Free Trade Agreement of 2529, we can now start revitalizing local businesses through this bill.

MessageWhat is wrong with you people? Tariffs hurt business, look at the facts:
"A poor family buying shoes and clothing is hardest hit by the "protection" tax. It doesn't really matter whether the family buys imported shoes and clothes, because tariffs on imports allow domestic producers to keep their prices higher. And keeping prices high is precisely the point. For by raising the price of imports, tariffs allow domestic companies to charge higher prices and still compete with imports. Theoretically, uncompetitive businesses that would otherwise have to go out of business can then compete, keeping their workers employed."

So in reality if Alorian business cannot compete in manufacturing then we should be out of it, but then again the current government wouldn't lower the extremely high minimum wage laws and taxes that would make prices lower over seas. What we need is less taxes and restriction on domestic business, not more on foreign business. Think of Alorians here who can finally get quality clothing from another nation instead of paying high prices for the same stuff made here, and think of the poor people who will lose their jobs in foreign nations.

MessageCommunists pro free trade??????

The IPA are telling vicious lies again!! Down wit the Greedy Capitalists!!! (OOC: JK, though I would point out that the people the IPA are trying to emulate (or at least are otherwise doing a very good job at seeming acting like), the 19th Century Gilded Age Industralists, supported protectionism, to protect themselves from foreign competition and increase their greedy profits. 19the century gilded age Industrialists were totally pro-tariffs and totally against free trade!!)

MessageVery good point made by the IPA. However, we still believe that tariffs should be imposed on imported goods.

Seeing as how our proposal seems a bit too restrictive, how about a reciprocal tariff/quota or tariffs & quotas on selected areas (particularly, goods on which Aloria excels the most)?
