Bill: Essential goods taxation

Voting deadline: May 2688
Description[?]:
"At this moment in time, the government is receiving in taxation 20% more taxation than it needs to provide public services. The majority of this sum is raised by the flat tax rate of 5% on essential items such as food and water. To me at least, this seems somewhat unfair to those on the margins of society. If I was the finance minister I would rebalance the budget to ensure a fairer balance of taxation and expenditure. For now, however, I am only capable of changing luxury goods tax, essential goods tax and the tax on the profit made by corporations. Which leads me to introduce this proposal. I propose that we slash the current essential goods tax rate to 1% from its current 5% rate. This will save country's taxpayers a collective total of 150,323,146,797.60 ZAR per annum and ensure that the nation still takes in a small surplus amount of taxation."
