Message | Sure. Since minimum wage is universal and must apply to all wages, it discourages employers from hiring part-time unskilled employees. When part-time unskilled employees, many of whom are teenagers or the elderly, cannot get jobs that employers don't want to give away, employment and disposable income can decrease as a whole, causing a general shrinking of GDP. A high minimum wage also puts considerable pressure on businesses, who are going to have a tax increase thrown at them too. A suitable minimum wage would be lower than the one you're proposing. |
