Message | An act to give the people what they don't want: efficient private companies providing them with an inferior service with minimal government regulation and a chance to become stakeholders in ruthless corporations that care little for their customers, but only wish to increase their own wealth. |
Date | 14:55:56, October 12, 2005 CET | From | Covenanters (IA) | To | Debating the Privatisation/Deregulation of Utilities and Public Services |
Message | If the public sector was so good, people wouldn't choose to give their money to "ruthless corporations that care little for their customers, but only wish to increase their own wealth" would they? By providing a service of its own the government sets a minimum standard which the private sector has to better to attract custom. There's no need for further government interference to hold the private providers back when simple competition should do the trick. |

Message | Let us go through this by article: 1. A public energy provider is required for those who can't afford private alternatives, 2. Private firefighting services? Is there an example of this IRL. It makes no sense. 3. Private clinics need to be regulated to ensure they treat their patients well and provide good care. 4. Private higher education requires regulation to meet nationally set standards. 5. Local governments, can we trust them? Look at the Kansas education for an example of local government in action. 6. Private schools needs to be regulated to ensure they teach adequate skills and information. |

Message | Get Governments out of our lives! And get commoners out of Government. You know it makes sense! |

Message | (1. A public energy provider is required for those who can't afford private alternatives) NO: Pay for what you use -- stop relying on others to give you something for nothing. (2. Private firefighting services? Is there an example of this IRL. It makes no sense.) YES: In Australia they're all over the place, and they have more fires than anyone. (3. Private clinics need to be regulated to ensure they treat their patients well and provide good care.) NO: Competition means: no good service : no customers! And the highly regulated hospitals of the UK are good? You jest! (4. Private higher education requires regulation to meet nationally set standards.) NO: Nationally set regulation mean governments controlling the minds of children (1984). And education standards have never been so low. (5. Local governments, can we trust them? Look at the Kansas education for an example of local government in action.) YES: The more 'national' and 'international' we make the bodies govern us, the less democratic, authoritarian and bureaucratic they become. It is the antithesis of democracy. (6. Private schools needs to be regulated to ensure they teach adequate skills and information.) NO: It is government schools that need to ensure that they teach adequate skills - because they DON'T! Get with it! Vote for smaller government, devolved authority, proper competition and making people responsible for their own lives. DOWN WITH THE NANNY STATE! You know it makes sense. |

Message | At least I can spell. Sence? I don't think you have the right to comment on another's sense, unless you can spell it. Uneducated people should be debarred from voting! Or holding office. You know it makes sense! |
Date | 03:27:21, October 13, 2005 CET | From | Luthori Green Party | To | Debating the Privatisation/Deregulation of Utilities and Public Services |
Message | UCP, I have never seen any private firefighting services in Australia. There are volunteer firefighters, but that is different. And its not that we have more fires, its that our bushfire season is one of the harshest. |

Message | Volunteer firefighters are NOT government. They are privately funded .. mostly by businesses in rural areas and by selling raffles in pubs. Proving: that GOVERNMENTS do not have to run these organisations. And Australia is always burning. I look out my window and see palls of smoke from the many fires in the district as we speak. Not like that in Sweden. |

Date | 00:07:08, October 14, 2005 CET | From | Covenanters (IA) | To | Debating the Privatisation/Deregulation of Utilities and Public Services |
Message | He's saying the climate's different in Sweden so there aren't as many fires as in Oz. |

Message | That is true, over here nearly half the year is bushfire season, and it usually gets pretty rough. |
