Bill: Work and Retirement Bill of 2/17/09
Details
Submitted by[?]: Centrist Action
Status[?]: defeated
Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.
Voting deadline: October 2714
Description[?]:
A bill dealing with work conditions and retirement. Retirement at the age of 55 means that potentially an individual will spend more of their life taking from the government than giving to it. My earlier proposal of 70 was deemed unacceptable, and so as a compromise, I propose retirement at age 65. At the same time, while having workers work longer, I've included a provision to insure that workers that work full time will make at least enough to support themselves. Make a job worth having. |
Proposals
Article 1
Proposal[?] to change The nation's policy on minimum wage regulation.

Proposed: There shall be a minimum wage at a level that a single full time worker on it can adequately subsist.
Article 2
Proposal[?] to change The professional retirement age.
Old value:: 55
Current: 75
Proposed: 65

Message | Article 1:We already stated our position. Anyway, I think individuals at age of 55 have worked enough and should be able to go retirement if they want to, however, there is no law which bars them from working however long they wish to work. Also with current law where workers have 3 options regarding their pensions(1. no retirement at all, 2.voluntary public pension, 3. voluntary private pension) they won't be drain on state budget. Article 2.:I simply do not believe in interfering in business matters. |

Message | Retirement at the age of 55 means people work for as little as 30 years of their life, while living off of pensions, public and private, for significantly more than that. It means our society has less than 50% of its population productive, and that would lead to a slow down in economic activity, or at the very least,a slow down in comparison to more productive nations. As to Article 2, I generally feel that keeping out of business matters is a wiser choice, but there are exceptions. I think a minimum wage needs to be in place to protect workers from owners who might try and take advantage of them |

Message | come on DMMfC - you agree with at least half the bill, and I can't imagine you being overtly opposed to some form of minimum wage, which is a major tenet of most who hold by your political leanings. If you don't vote at all, on the other hand, it might affect your totals in the upcoming election. |
