Bill: Anarch Anakrousite Reform Bill - Green Agenda (iii)
Details
Submitted by[?]: Commonwealth Workers Army
Status[?]: passed
Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.
Voting deadline: January 2126
Description[?]:
Again, the AAP pushes, for consideration, the idea that current legislation allows a dangerous freedom.... that to pollute the land, and/or our food supply. The AAP believes it essential, for the ecology of Likatonia, and for the preservation of a SAFE food suplly for our citizens, that we regulate which chemicals are allowed to be applied to food crops. As it stands, the current legislation allows that even such chemicals as cyanide or arsenic MAY be added to a crop, so long as it says it (somewhere) on the label. |
Proposals
Article 1
Proposal[?] to change Government policy concerning the use of pesticides.
Old value:: Farmers are required to list chemicals used on their crops.
Current: Farmers are required to list chemicals used on their crops.
Proposed: The government approves and regulates agricultural chemical use.

Message | The RLP will oppose this, as we feel that the market will determine what is a desirable mix of additives, as long as everyone knows what they are getting. |

Message | Response to the RLP: 1) Not everyone DOES know what they are getting. Not everyone has a Chemistry degree, and industry is not ALWAYS friendly. Even with the chemicals we use everyday, how many people actually know what di-Hydrogen Monoxide is? 2) Current law allows a producer to use KNOWN toxins... just so long as they write it on the pack. 3) We are allowing our agricultural industry to ride rough-shod over our ecology, with NO accountability or safety protocol. |

Message | To the AAP: 1) Anyone who does not know water when they see it written out can consult any of our excellent libraries, or if that leads to increases in consumption of acetylsalicylic acid, one can ask any experts one cares to consult. 2) Many known toxins are beneficial in small amounts, while toxic in larger quantities. It is up to the individual consumer to decide how much is too much, based on either research or expert testimony. 3) Full labeling is accountability. If I admit what I am doing, I am being held accountable for my actions. |

Message | After much consideration, we will support. Development must be sustainable. It pains us to extend the government in such a fashion, but by protecting the soil we can ensure that one day we gain an economic advantage over nations with toxic water and soil. |

Message | The AAP thanks the PCP for their support. We MUST protect our ecology, AND our citizens, if we wish there to BE a Likatonia of tomorrow. |

Message | We're green capitalists, I said that. We don't support vast or stringent regulations, but we support moderate environmental regulations to ensure that our industries and economy in general are sustainable. There's no use at all in an economy that doesn't function a generation from now. Or to put it another way, while industry has an immediate reason to improve health, it doesn't usually have an incentive to improve the environment. In our experience, most companies don't last for the decades required to follow environmental change, and those that do typically didn't get there with such long range planning as environmental protection entails. |

Random fact: It is possible for a player to transfer ownership of a character or a royal house to another player. This should be done in a public way, such as on the Character Transfers thread, so that if a dispute arises in the future, Moderation can be pointed towards evidence of the transfer. |
Random quote: "Civil disobedience. . . is not our problem. Our problem is civil obedience. Our problem is that numbers of people all over the world have obeyed the dictates of the leaders of their government and have gone to war, and millions have been killed because of this obedience. . Our problem is that people are obedient all over the world in the face of poverty and starvation and stupidity, and war, and cruelty. Our problem is that people are obedient while the jails are full of petty thieves, and all the while the grand thieves are running the country. That's our problem." - Howard Zinn |
