Details

Submitted by[?]: We Say So! Party

Status[?]: defeated

Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.

Voting deadline: September 2735

Description[?]:

In order to guarantee that there is always a minimum amount of basic food provision and that said food is produced and sold to the consumer at a price that is not overly extortionate, the Government will own and operate State farms to produce strategic crops (designated below). This produce will be sold at, or slightly above in order to assure return on investment, cost of production. All other produce, including that produced on State farms, can, and will, be produced by Private farmers on their own land and will have no outside interference, including the receipt of subsidies, in what food is produced as long as the standards of said production is of acceptable standards in both cleanliness of operations and safety of staff and livestock.

Crops deemed strategic;

1. Wheat used for the production of a single type of brown wholemeal bread.
2. Dairy used to produce a full cream milk and hard cheese (both cheese and milk production will also allow competitive Private companies as well, should they wish to become involved. The aforementioned production will be limited to a single type of basic hard cheese and a standard full cream pasturised milk in order to guarantee the affordability of these basic foodstuffs to the general public).

All other produce is to be left to the private sector allowing for easier and more fluid response to changing market conditions.
