Bill: Democratic Coalition Cabinet

Details

Submitted by[?]: Techno-Revolutionary Party

Status[?]: defeated

Votes: This bill presents the formation of a cabinet. It requires more than half of the legislature to vote yes. Traditionally, parties in the proposal vote yes, others (the opposition) vote no. This bill will pass as soon as the required yes votes are in and all parties in the proposal have voted yes, or will be defeated if unsufficient votes are reached on the deadline.

Voting deadline: September 2742

Description[?]:

We would like to propose this new cabinet to reflect the recently elected government here in Barmenia. The parties in this cabinet collectively make up 472 of the seats in the Central Assembly.

Each party has two cabinet seats. This is a broad coalition of those who are in favour of open and democratic government by the people and for the people. The more extreme parties here may be "wary" of the Caliphate Revival Party but as a party they have consistently supported democratic and socialist policies, consistently supporting the bills that many LPF members have proposed, as well as consistently supporting TR-P bills and supporting secularisation. They are clearly in favour of democracy and socialism, but merely look out for the interests of the islamic population here in Barmenia just as the PMLO is clearly looking out for the interests of agricultural workers. Look to their voting record and you will find that they are completely compatible with all parties in this Cabinet.

Here's a breakdown of the seats. I have allocated two seats to each party as there are six parties in this cabinet and not a single one of them holds enough seats to form a majority in the Central Assembly, so two seats each for six parties in a 12-seat cabinet is an excellent balancing figure.

The Pan-Majatran Liberation Organisation will take up the Foreign Affairs and Food & Agriculture seats. These are appropriate selections for this party in particular as their primary areas of focus are in building our links to our surrounding nations, and the agricultural sectors.

The Revolutionary Armed Forces of Barmenia will take up the Internal Affairs and Infrastructure & Transport seats. These are appropriate selections as the RAFB currently holds the executive head of state position and thus naturally should have Internal Affairs. Infrastructure & Transport is also an effective seat for this party to hold due to their having built up the infrastructure that we utilise today.

The Caliphate Revival Party will retain its current seats of Finance & Defence. These portfolios are particularly good ones for this party as a cabinet member as they already have a significant body of knowledge of these ministries, their current operations and their affairs. Given the current situation between Pontesi and Beiteynu and the CRP's current plans in Defence and Finance regarding this situation it would not be advisable to move them to different seats. The CRP also holds a great deal of knowledge in these areas and has had significant involvement in these portfolios for many years.

The Communist Party of Barmenia will take up the Trade & Industry and Justice seats. These portfolios are appropriate for this party given their already great knowledge and experience in negotiating between the workers and the government, and their history of mediation and campaigning in the Trade & Industry sectors. As a Communist party this is perhaps their main focus and Justice is necessarily linked to their campaigning and their knowledge of the Trade & Industry sectors due to legal matters.

The Techno-Revolutionary Party will retain its current seat of Health & Social Services as well as taking up Science & Technology. These are appropriate portfolios for this party given their primary focus on research and development of new technology, new fields of study, and applying them in the most efficient and logical ways possible to Barmenia in an effort to improve the country and its people.

The Popular People's Front of Barmenia will take up the seats of Education & Culture, and Environment & Tourism.

OOC: I picked the seats I thought were most appropriate for each party, but the Popular People's Front is pretty inactive, often failing to even vote on most legislation, and they haven't really done enough or even given a description of what it is that their party supports. So I wasn't sure where to put them. It actually shocks me they got 116 seats when they have next to no visibility in most areas and generally don't vote much.

MessageWe are opposed to popular frontism of this nature. Whatever is said about the CRP, their primary political objective is to subordinate Barmenia to theocratic rule, that is what a 'caliphate' is. We believe a genuinely revolutionary cabinet is necessary, why does the T-RP wish to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory?

OOC. I think the Popular People's front did so well as they are the only party which currently has a 'big governement' profile,

MessageOOC: New Parties with low visibilities tend to do well at first election. It's unlikely to last

IC: The doctrine of permanent revolution is nothing but a front for authoritarian indivduals to perpetually hold power. The revolution came and was done decades ago, ande even in our proposals for the reestablishment of the Caliphate the socialist nature of the State has not been changed. We are growing tired of making compromises to jumped-up revolutionaries who talk in Marxist jargon to hide their own lack of ideas now they are actually expected to run things.

MessageFrom your statements you obviously have no idea what the doctrine of permenent revolution actually means, and as it happens we are not proponents of that doctrine. Please refrain from using Marxist jargon to cover up your own lack of knowledge.

Anyway here's a little light reading http://www.marxists.org/archive/trotsky/1931/tpr/index.htm

There's going to be a test afterwards so read carefully

MessageNo, we will not allow the right wing in our cabinet much less be minister of defense.

MessageThe doctrine of Permanent revolution is the same as all communist doctrines; we don't bother drawing distinction between different types of the same failure.

OOC: And since your linking to Real World, I'm going to take that response as partly OOC- I'd bet I've read more Communist theory than most of the people here, so don't be an ass :P
