A large-scale nuclear exchange would be a tragedy from which humanity and the world might never recover. Sekowo should work through diplomacy to convince all nations to abandon these weapons -- but first we must lead through example. |

Message | Advocacy for a nuclear-free world is not but Utopianism, their are regimes across the planet, both authoritarian and democratic that will never give up nuclear weapons. No, Sekowo must retain her nuclear ability to defend herself from those who would love nothign more than to see us gone. |

Message | ((OOC: I'd be glad to study the history if you could provide a reference, but just citing "history" is not very helpful.)) Like all weapons of mass destruction, nuclear weapons are only useful defensively if as a deterrent. But there are ample deterrents available to our military other than WMDs. If we cling to our nuclear arsenal without even considering the alternatives, what example does that set to the rest of the world? To call a worthy goal impossible is to give up without making any attempt to succeed. We must become the change we wish to see in the world. |

Message | OOC: Just know that our nukes have been the only deterance to invasion before, on more then one occasion. I'm not quite sure where a good source would be, but check the back log, or talk to Iori if he's in a good mood. |

Message | OOC: Unfortunately I have'nt really kept a good update of our modern history on the Wiki, but you should be able to find some stuff out from reading the various stuff under the Sekowo category on the game wikia, and of course looking back at the bills. A short version is this, Sekowo is a large nation (we did colonization RP of the continent we're on, so you only see the core nation on the homepage since it can't be physically changed), and has been to war to defend ourselves and allies several times, and in many cases it has been our nuclear arsenal, and the fact that we are'nt afraid to use it (we've used tactical nukes on a hardened military bunker before) has essentially been one of the main reasons we have managed to gain and retain the power we now have. |

Message | OOC: Ah, thanks for clarifying. I'm still going to be pushing for this IC, since my party's a bunch of peacenik hippies, but the history certainly makes your position understandable. Will probably propose the same thing again next term. I haven't normally made bill after bill proposing the same thing, but getting more visibility certainly won't hurt. And for some reason it seems that most of the Sekowo policies are already where I'd want them anyway. >.> I outsmarted myself by picking an ideal nation, maybe? <.< |
