Bill: Prescription Drug Freedom Act.

Details

Submitted by[?]: Liberal-Progressive Union

Status[?]: defeated

Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.

Voting deadline: April 2129

Description[?]:

This bill ends corporate welfare as well as government regulation of this industry. Drug companies are currently "tied down" by the current law as the government decides how money much to give, and how little these companies can charge. Subsidizing a private industry and dictating the prices amounts to pure "nationalisation". Drug companies want to make profits and will spend more on research than they currently receive from the government. The costs will not increase drastically due to the N.H.S and other government welfare programs that provide free, or low cost prescriptions for those of low income.

MessageWe currently have enough programs to assist low income citizens. We do not need the government limiting industry more by forcing companies how much to charge. After all, they produced the drugs and unless the government has a patent, (which they lack of course) they should not be able to dictate the price.

MessagePrice regulation helps keep costs down for the NHS by stopping companies charging ridiculous amounts. Research subsidies should not be abloshied as it allows the government to direct research into fields that of particular importance for Hobrazia.

MessageCompanies that make drugs, do not need the government to direct research. These companies are made up of scientist, chemists, etc. I'm sure they are more qualifed than the government as to what to and how much to spend on research. If they want to make money, they won't charge an outragous price that is beyond the means of most people. This gives them control over their own company instead of government handouts.

Message"Companies that make drugs, do not need the government to direct research. This is not always the same as what the population actually need.

MessageFreedom for the producers, not so much for the consumers...

As the UB pointed out, companies are out to make money not necessarily to produce the drugs that would be required. No private company in their right minds would produce the cure for a cold, for example, as they make to much money producing drugs to reduce the symptoms of a cold. The Government, however, would love for this drug to be produced and would pay handsomely for it as, in the long term, it would reduce costs to the NHS.

Random fact: Cultural Protocol bills must provide a real-life equivalent or short description for the ethnic groups, languages and religions contained in them, such that it would be easy for an unfamiliar player to understand (e.g. "Dundorfian = German"). Where appropriate, they should also provide guidance to players on where to find help with translations and character names. This might include, for example, links to Google Translate, Behind the Name's Random Name Generator and Fantasy Name Generators.
