Bill: Capital Punishment Reform
Details
Submitted by[?]: Humanist Alliance
Status[?]: passed
Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.
Voting deadline: October 2778
Description[?]:
The Humanist Alliance does not believe that the state administered killing of those accused of any crime is acceptable. Already in Rutania 3 people have been tried and executed for crimes they didn't commit, and for the rest, who is to say they couldn't have been rehabilitated. We believe in the sanctity of human life, and that when the state has the power to execute for treason, this creates a dangerously slippery slope. |

Message | The current form of the bill was instituted in a crisis situation, when Rutania faced an external threat. Fortunately the situation was wisely. The REP does not see the actual need for death penalty, thus we support this piece of legislation. Eleanor Bozarburg, Minister of Justice, Vice-President of the REP |

Message | Agreed |
Date | 01:33:07, June 27, 2009 CET | From | Rutanian Heritage Party | To | Debating the Capital Punishment Reform |
Message | We strongly oppose this legislation. Capital punishment is an appropriate retributive punishment for severe criminals, and the only punishment that is commensurate to such atrocities. Not only would we like to retain the death penalty, but we would like to extend it to murderers, rapists and child sex offenders. |

Message | We wouldn't like to see the extension of the death penalty, but the OP can certainly support the current laws in the books. |

Random fact: In order for a Cabinet bill to pass, more than half of the legislature must vote for it and all of the parties included in the proposed Cabinet must support it. If your nation has a Head of State who is also the Head of Government, then the party controlling this character must also vote for the bill, since the Head of Government is also a member of the Cabinet. If any of these requirements are not met, the bill will not pass. |
