Bill: Nationalisation of Defence Industries
Details
Submitted by[?]: Rutanian Elitist Party
Status[?]: passed
Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.
Voting deadline: November 2814
Description[?]:
Argumentation of the Bill: The REP is strongly committed to privatization and free competition but we believe that the question of national defence should not be completely left out of the governments hand. According to our views a minimalistic state should have a "police function", that is ensuring the internal and external security of the Commonwealth and of every citizen. That is why we propose that a part of the Rutanian defence industries should be owned by the government. By this measure we wish to achieve the harmonization of the military production of the Commonwealth. Only if the government is a significant actor in the field of defence industries, is it then able to carry out its policies regarding national defence. Nevertheless, the REP wishes to guarantee that private companies have also possibility to function in favourable conditions. Signed by, Isaiah Bergen, Minister of Trade and Industry |

Message | We can certainly support this - national defence is something far too important to be treated as just another commodity to be left entirely to the whims of the market. It is true that there are some things that it is simply implausible and in fact dangerous to leave to the private sector. |

Message | This point is important - that national defense is something too important to be left to the "whims of the market", but it is okay for workers to be left to it at a time where unemployment is on the rise? Working class people don't need war manufacturers - they need sustainable jobs. Can a spokesperson for the REP comment also if they thought about the impact that this move would have on employment (which beggars the question that if they did, why did they omit it from the proposal outline) and exactly how many people are predicted to lose jobs in this move? It appears that this government holds more importance on privateers and warmongers than on working class people during this jobs meltdown. Message | We do not fully comprehend the point behind the objection of the RWP. This move would not significantly influence the empoyment market of the country. The measure proposed would simply mean that the government takes over a partial control of the defence industries. It does not mean the diminuation of workplace numbers. On the contrary... |

Message | I think it is important to regulate the private defence industry to ensure weapons are not sold to nations we would rather didn't have them. |
