Bill: Prostitution Act

Details

Submitted by[?]: United Democrats

Status[?]: defeated

Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.

Voting deadline: June 2818

Description[?]:

Whether we like it or not, prostitution is a reality. Young women are being taken advantage of in an unregulated and dangerous environment. The NDP propose making Prostitution a legal, regulated practice.

By allowing certain prostitution businesses to exist, we can regulate these companies.

In recent surveys it is thought that around 60% of prostitutes have a sexually transmitted disease and around 90% have had an STD. The threat of STD's is huge in the illegal prostitution market, by regulating and creating guidelines we can stop the spread of harmful diseases.

With regulations we can assure that all prostitutes will get a minimum wage and will be safe within their job. It is simply not enough to outlaw this act because, as we can all see, the legality of prostitution will not stop people practicing. Instead of spending tax payers money on trying to stop prostitution we could tax these businesses and lower some essential goods taxes.

I would like all my honourable opponents to consider this debate carefully. Thank you all.

President of The New Democratic Party of Rutania

MessageWe will most likely support, however does the NDP have any figures to suggest the legality of prostitution is staes where it has already been devolved? And what are the NDP's arguments for centralisation of government rule?

MessageWe see no problem with current policy, and the NDPR have not as yet produced a substantial justification for the federal government to usurp local government authority and autonomy over the matter of prostitution.
Aside from this, we can see no adequate reason for the total legalization of prostitution - it is a reprehensible act that merely indulges the perversions of Rutania's seedy underbelly in exchange for money. Recognizing prostitution as a legitimate 'profession' is incompatible with a civilized society.

MessageThe PPR suggest that this is left to local government. We would, however, welcome further debate as to this bill.

MessageAs usual, the OP does not support taking power from local governments and putting it into the federal government's hands.
