Bill: Stricter Regulation of Strikes

Details

Submitted by[?]: Rutanian Elitist Party

Status[?]: passed

Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.

Voting deadline: February 2822

Description[?]:

The REP does not believe that strikes are suitable measure in order for workers to pursue their interest. These strikes paralyse the economic life of the country and disturb the public order of the cities.

Thus,

We propose two measures which would better regulate the strike actions of the workers. Article 1 ensures that workers cannot blackmail their employers with strikes, so creates equality between employer and employees. Article 2. ensures that strike actions are not initiated as a consequence of some obscure political interests of the trade union leaders.

Boromir Kreuz,
Vice-President REP

MessageWe strongly disagree with this attack on trade unionism, as a way of concentrating power in the hands of employers and against workers who merely seek to improve their lives against that of capitalist greed. This bill summounts to a further attack on working people (firing workers who risk their incomes to go on strike) and discriminates against workers who have every right to join a union and to take action.

From this we see yet again the stance of leading parties in Rutania - putting the ruling classes profit margins over that of working class people.

MessageWe oppose. The right to strike without fear of losing your job is a fundamental necessity in this world of capitalism.

MessageWe support this legislation, and, in response to the comments made by the RWP and the NDPR, we ask this - if workers can strike whenever they want with a guarantee that they will not be fired, where do we draw the line? Surely, if workers are striking over rediculous or unrealistic demands, employers should be given the capacity to fire them. We feel that disputes over conditions and pay are best resolved on a personal level between employers and employees - striking merely pressures employers into increasing pay or other things to levels they literally cannot afford.

MessageThe current legislation states that an employee must have a reasonable reason to strike. This does not include striking 'whenever they want'.

MessageIf a union is truly effective, then those workers will not be fired.
