Bill: Compulsory Purchase Act
Details
Submitted by[?]: United Democrats
Status[?]: defeated
Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.
Voting deadline: December 2822
Description[?]:
We must allow for the expansion of Rutania. The government needs to be able to purchase land from a citizen or private firm for use as a civil, defence or public instalment. The victim of compulsory purchase will be given compensation decided by a third party. We need this legislation to continue with our economic growth. Obviously eminent domain would only be used as a last resort because it may have a severe public relation impact and a negative impact with private companies and governmental partnerships. |
Proposals
Article 1
Proposal[?] to change Eminent Domain.
Old value:: The government may not seize private property.
Current: The government may seize private property for vital government works.
Proposed: The government may seize private property for vital government works.

Message | We would not sacrifice the freedoms of the people to own property for economic growth. There can never be true compensation for something taken from you...by force. Tell me good senators of the NDPR: Would you want someone to take your property from you? Do you really think a pile of money is just compensation if say, the house your family has lived in since they arrived in Rutania was taken from you? This intrusion on the right to private property is unacceptable. |

Message | As we have discussed at length elsewhere, we oppose any measure that impinges, in any way, private property ownership and the full dominion of the owner over his own property. Property ownership is a principle hard-geared into human-nature, and an institution that is fundamental to civilized society. Private property is the single most important protection against tyrannical government - without it, there is no restriction on the size, scope or power of the State. As history shows, the greater the power of the government, and the larger it is, the more corruptable it is, and the more it squashes personal initiative and responsibility. This legislation severely disrupts the balance between the private and public spheres, or threatens to destroy it altogether. We fervently oppose this legislation and any like it. |
Date | 15:57:05, September 23, 2009 CET | From | Liberal Democratic Party | To | Debating the Compulsory Purchase Act |
Message | We believe that private property ownership should be free from government interference and, as such, would not support this bill. |

Random fact: In Culturally Protected nations, special care must be taken to ensure realism is maintained when role-playing a government controlled by an ethnic and/or religious minority. If it is to be supposed that this government is supported by a majority of the population, then this should be plausibly and sufficiently role-played. The burden of proof is on the player or players role-playing such a regime to demonstrate that it is being done realistically |
