Bill: Legislative Term

Details

Submitted by[?]: Republicans

Status[?]: defeated

Votes: This bill asks for an amendement to the Constitution. It will require two-thirds of the legislature to vote in favor. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.

Voting deadline: March 2825

Description[?]:

We understand that a five year maximum term has become a tradition for the Telamon Parliament, however we feel that this is too long. Currently it appears that not an awful lot happens in Parliament, the government doesn't do much, little legislation is actually proposed, so why does Parliament need five year terms? In our view it doesn't. The people should be given a more frequent opportunity to hold their elected representatives to account.

MessageWe do not agree. Having such frequent elections costs Telamon much, and destimulates people to vote. If you have not noticed, frequent elections had a turnout of over 80%, not the case before. This way, they are choosing their representatives for the next five years, and think more carefully. Also, if there is some urgent situation demanding new elections, we could agree on early elections.

MessageWe agree with the RRP on this matter. We find the current term lengths for our Parliamentary representatives optimal We certainly would be opposed to cutting terms by two full years.

MessageWe feel that Parliament currently is pretty much little more than a cushy job, in which politicians are elected and do...nothing. Parliament is depressingly quiet, and we feel the opportunity for more frequent elections would hopefully spur further activity, or at the every least bring in new blood.
