Bill: Majority Approval Bill

Details

Submitted by[?]: Action Française

Status[?]: passed

Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.

Voting deadline: August 2134

Description[?]:

The current law is unwise, as it means that a small minority of very active members can force an entire union into a strike.

For example if a union votes about a strike, and only 10% of members vote, a mere 1in 20 voting yes could make the entire union go on strike.

Thus the law should be changed, so that for a union to go on strike, half of every single member, add one, must vote yes for a strike to occur. This is more democratic, and fairer to those workers who don't vote because they hate their unions lefty activists.

MessageWe do not feel that those who do not send in a ballot should be considered as automatically opposed to a strike, which is what this bill proposes.

MessageStriking is a dangerus activity, and it is always the case that the hard-core will be more likley to vote. We shall fully support this bill.

MessageHow the hell can a vote which those who vote yes compromise less than half of the overall membership be regarded as a valid vote. You will often find with strike ballots that 99% favour the strike, 1% against, on a turnout of 30%. That suggests that the membership is often opposed and has not voted.

The PLP's arguement only works if the results is very close and the tunout is high, which would suggest those who didn't vote couldn't vote.

Strikes are harmful to our nation, therefore they must be approved by the majority of the whole union.

Random fact: Voters have an extra appreciation for bills that actually get passed, so if you want to maximally take profit from your votes, make sure you compromise with others.
