Proposal decrees that the government will have no right to legislate on matters of personal choice in which consequences do no harm to anyone other then the individual. Examples of such cases are seat belt laws, regulation of smoking, or other activities which may be harmful to an individual but do not in any way do harm to others.

MessageI have updated the bill to be a bit less vague. Seat belt laws do NOT make sense. Why should the government force an individual to wear a seatbelt? The consquences of not wearing one do not physically harm anyone outside of the vehicle and such a law takes away the individual's freedom to choose the level of protection that they choose to place on themselves. If it makes sense to force people to wear seatbelts, then we should also have a ban on cigarettes. We could also require people to wear Kevlar vests and helmets in high crime areas because it would make them safer.

MessageBut come on, seatbelt laws do make sense, first of all a person in the back seat of a car not wearing a seatbelt is thrown forward and can injure passengers in the front seat. Its not like wearing a seatbelt is a big demand on personal freedom. There are no bad points to wearing a seatbelt, it takes a second and all cars have them. I disagree with this bill.
