Bill: Emergency Measures Act 2838

Details

Submitted by[?]: People's Party of Rutania

Status[?]: defeated

Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.

Voting deadline: January 2841

Description[?]:

We at the PPR believe this to be a essential step during this current climate.
This bill is not advocating heavy handed tactics, far from it in fact. We believe that we have a highly professional military who can assist, in an emergency. This could be anywhere from logistical support, evacuation of danger areas or medical assistance in the event of terrorist attacks.
We would hate to see preventable harm befall innocent people due to paranoid legislation.

MessageWe proposed this exact bill, 'Special Measures' not long ago so we obviously support. This is especially prevalent as funding of the police force has been so low for so many years. Whilst the LDP Finance Ministry is addressing this issue, considering the high military spending, I think it's only sensible to have such safeguards in place. Especially considering the moderate amount of civil unrest over the last decade, supporters of the LDP feeling the brunt of such unrest.

MessageOur position on this policy is well known, so there is little need to explain it again now. Needless to say, we oppose this legislation.

MessageWe second the OP's statements - there is almost always a need for an increase in police funding. If the PPR and the LDP feel that the military may have to assist the police in extreme circumstances, this only underscores that need even more. Allowing the military to back up the police force temporarily solves one problem, only to create another.
