MessageWe propose this bill for a number of reasons:
1. Currently local governments are allowed to regulate drug use, this is confusing and unfair.
2. Cannabis is a naturally growing substance.
3. The negative effects of cannabis are quite minor, especially when compare to alcohol and tobacco, for example it is almost physically impossible to overdose on cannabis, but it is possible to overdose on alcohol and nicotine and even chocolate.

We feel it is very hypocritical to ban cannabis but allow the sale of cigarettes and alcohol.

MessageImpossible to overdose on it? Talking from experience, eh? Well, i don't agree. Cannabis is still a drug, and drugs are wrong. I don't want a nation of potheads going around talking rubbish.

MessageIn response to the Aloria Green Socialist Party, I don't want to ban alcohol, tobacco or chocolate, especially chocolate I was just using that to demonstrate a point. I think people should be allowed to smoke and drink as long as they are responsible, the same should be true for cannabis.

In response to the Capitalism Now! Party I do not use cannabis, nor do I especially want to. My information comes from education not experience, if you check you will find that I am correct and you cannot overdose on it. And as for drugs being wrong, alcohol is a drug, nicotine is a drug, caffeine is a drug, yet we allow these things because the risks they pose are minimal, it should be the same for cannabis.

MessageMarijuana should absolutley be legal. It does no more harm to the body then alcohol and has analogous if not similar effects. If we're going to allow one, we should allow the other. you can't really classify marijuana with other "harder" drugs. You never really hear of anyone O.D.ing on weed. It's not even in the same class as drugs such as cocaine or PCP.

An arguement can be made that marijuana is a stepping stone to other drugs. Logically, alcohol could be a stepping stone to marijuana, the desire to have fun a stepping stone to alcohol, etc...so we should ban everything that is a stepping stone? This arguement can hold little influence on the decision of legality.

Besides the moral and societal ramifications, the legalization of marijuana would have a significant effect on our economy. Right now, we spend a ton of money on combatting marijuana use. The DEA, local police forces, D.A.R.E., drug rehabilitation programs, paying for each and every drug dealer and user that is in jail, on probation, or has ever had to appear in court. All of this stuff costs money and is not recoverable by other means.

If marijauna were to be legal, we would have significantly less people in jail (a significant cost), could free up drug enforcement police officers to focus on REAL crimes, tax the product and use the tax for rehabilitation and education (similar to what we do with cigarettes now...using the product to pay for its own rehab progams. This is a cyclical expense and doesn't put a dent into the budgets of most state and local governments which pay for these public programs).

Another simple reason to legalize weed is to dry up a huge black market. By putting the product in the hands of legitimate, state regulated businesses we take the money out of the hands of gangs that use the drug trade as a major source of income. Also, it allows for the weed to be safer. There would be no worry of it being laced with PCP or getting ripped off because it's half oregano.

People are still going to do it regardless. Why not take the intelligent approach instead of fighting an uphill battle. This similar arguement can be used to show why prostitution should be legal.
