Message | Aldegar has enough politicians as it is. With 501 politicians, how would His Grace be able to keep them all bribed at once? How would the person chairing Grand Council meetings be able to recognise 501 different faces without forgetting people's names or getting them confused? What if all 501 members wanted to speak at the same time in a debate that was only scheduled for only an hour? They might all talk at once and not be able to hear each other, and even if they took it in turns they'd still all get less than 8 seconds each. How will we fit nearly 200 extra Grand Councillors into the Grand Council Chamber? There simply isn't space. How will we afford to pay all of these extra Grand Councillors when we are poor enough as it is? And where did we get this bizarre idea that just because the peasant population has increased we should give them more Grand Councillors? If the current Grand Councillors don't feel they are competent to represent their peasants, they should resign and let someone take over who can do the job properly (like one of His Grace's friends and relations). Altenatively, if we really do want to reduce the population:Grand Councillor ratio, then why don't we do this in a sensible way, like culling some peasants and restricting the franchise to the better classes? His Grace fears that if we pass this Act, all it will mean is that there will be more people for the peasants to moan at, and more uppity, whining, busybodying "democratic representatives" who think they are so important that they don't need to defer to his ancient aristocratic lineage. Message | If having more politicans makes it more difficult for the Ducal Delegation to keep them bribed then perhaps we should go for as many as possible? |
