Bill: Strike and Economic Security Act

Details

Submitted by[?]: We Say So! Party

Status[?]: passed

Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.

Voting deadline: August 2851

Description[?]:

In order to allow Unions and their affiliates to strike, but also so as to guarantee that the entire economy cannot be held to ransom by a few trade unions, only closely related Unions may go on strike in sympathy with another.
Closely related is classified as:

- In, or directly linked to, the same industry;
- In, or directly linked to, the same company.

Moreover, so that Unions cannot force members of its Union to down tools without any say in the operation, or lack of, of said Union, all strikes must be agreed by a majority of the members of aforementioned Union held by secret ballot. That majority must be of all members of said Union so as to not allow the minority to control the work, or lack thereof, of the majority.
Any Unions striking in sympathy but who do not meet the above criteria will face criminal prosecution.

In addition the Government will re-introduce into legislation the guarantees and security introduced in the Employees Charter: Working Hours Limitation Act section 1 (as defined below);

# The general principle regulating the working hours is a maximum of either 8 hours per day or 48 hours per week. But with shift work for example the maxima may be increased to eleven per day and fifty per week. In cases where work cannot be interrupted, the limit rises to 12 hours per day.

However, whilst the above protects the workers from abuse from employers employers must thusly be protected from abuse from employees. To this end it will be accepted that any worker who goes on strike without the agreement of their Trade Union or deemed to be without reasonable cause, the employer has the right to terminate the contract of aforementioned worker without risk to themselves.
Both the employee and employer may request an investigation by an industrial tribunal should they feel that the actions of either party is unfair.
