Bill: Rutanian Rail
Details
Submitted by[?]: Liberal Democratic Party
Status[?]: defeated
Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.
Voting deadline: March 2853
Description[?]:
Rutania should have a single national rail service that can provide a first class government run service. Any profits obtained from the service can go directly back into improving rail tracks, trains and training of staff instead of lining shareholders pockets. For too long, our commuters money has made business rich instead of improving this valuable service. Lets invest and have an effective and well run train system. |

Message | Why shouldn't the public transportation system be subject to the same standards of competition as every other sector, especially given that competition is the essence of improvement in services and economic efficiency in any industry? The LDP seem to subscribe to the erroneous view that the federal government is somehow more effective in delivering vital services than private companies, and that such companies cannot be trusted merely because they pursue profit. However, under the current system, the government contracts the most competitive company to manage and operate the rail-ways, and if the chosen company fails to do this satisfactorily, and consumers are unsatisfied, it will simply be replaced by a better company. This seems to be the closest thing to an efficient railway system; if it isn't broke, why fix it? |

Message | Any revenue that a national rail service obtains can go directly back into the service to improve it. It would not be concerned with giving away its profits to shareholders. By passing this bill, we can increase investment into this valuable service. |
