MessageMr Speaker, His Most Royal and Serene Majesty has recalled Parliament today, to allow me to make a special statement.

As members may have heard, I have the unfortunate news that the Duchess Wright passed away this morning. For nearly 13 years she led this country as Prime Minister, and for the last three years she remained a member of this Parliament, fighting for the causes that she believed in. Mr Speaker, today of all days I do not wish to be political or partisan, but there must be some things that she achieved that can be celebrated by all. She brought universal suffrage to Hutori and extended rights of nationality and citizenship. Mr Speaker, put aside her capitalist and constitutional reforms and her extension of civil liberties, these are things that stand alone that all Hutorians can be proud of.

Anybody who came into contact with the Duchess, no matter their political leanings, would have noticed her warmth and generosity. She had extraordinary attention to detail, Mr Speaker, knowing the small details of the individual's personal life, asking after their family and taking note of their circumstances. Mr Speaker, in my case, she spent much time tending to my grief after the tragic death of my wife, something which I will never forget. Many a backbencher has been impressed by her strong beliefs, her unwaving conviction and again, her warmth and friendliness. I am sure that all members of Parliament can agree with me on this. Mr Speaker, with your permission, His Most Royal and Serene Majesty has asked me to read out a very short statement on His behalf:

"Today, I would like Parliament to join with me in expressing our condolences and national sense of grief at the loss of the former Prime Minister. She was the first Prime Minister under the new constitution and led this country with dignity and patriotism. Her devotion to Hutori should be remembered. We have lost a warm and loving person."

Mr Speaker, let us record our thanks to the King for His noble statement. Let us also, Mr Speaker, record our best wishes to the family of the late Duchess, and express to them our grief. Mr Speaker, later this week I will attend the funeral of the Duchess, and know that you intend to join me there as Parliament's representative. I hope that the leaders of the GKF and the NSP can join us there.

Mr Speaker, it is my strongest belief that the Duchess should be honoured. Her roots lay very much in Kenai, and her politics and passions were typically Kenaian. She was born in the town of Richmond, just outside of Port Prosperity, and retired there after her Prime Ministerial years. I would like Parliament to elevate Richmond to city status, and have it renamed Wrightstown. Mr Speaker, I do not intend this to be an act of precedence - the idea of myself having a city named after it is, quite frankly, laughable. She was a remarkable individual, who loved this country, and we should honour that.

MessageMr Speaker,

the GKF acknowledge the great deeds that Duchess Wright has done for our country. Without her, it would not have been possible to turn Hutori into the libertarian powerhouse it has become. If there were differences between our party and the Duchess, they were small and negligible. We therefore support this act wholeheartedly, if someone deserves to be remembered from this period of history, then nobody deserves it more.

MessageThe NSP is opposed to naming cities after people who have been alive during the modern history of our land. This was the practice of the communist dictatorship we ousted, and we would not like to see it revived. If it is the intention of this body to name a city in commemoration of Margaret Wright, we would suggest as an alternative naming a city after a concept or idea of which she was particularly fond. Either way, we will abstain.

MessageThe CLP intend this to be a one-off. We believe that the Duchess was a remarkable individual who is almost unique in deserving this honour. We can confirm now that we shall not propose such an honour in the future.
