Submitted by[?]: Aldegar Liberty Party
Status[?]: defeated
Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.

Description[?]:
Article 12 of the recently passed Universal Declaration of Human Rights, "No one shall be subjected to arbitrary interference with his privacy, family, home or correspondence, nor to attacks upon his honour and reputation. Everyone has the right to the protection of the law against such interference or attacks." However, current Aldegarian law gives the government the power of Habeas Data, in complete contradiction of the right to privacy that this treaty espouses and violating the security every Aldegarian should feel from an oppressive government. |

Message | The state has to put the interests of the many before the interests of the few. This move would simply allow criminals to get away with crimes because it would be harder to bring a succesful prosecution. |

Message | The state has to do no such thing, the intent of a government is to protect the rights of its citizenry, all of its citizenry, not to deprive minority rights as the behest of the majority. Would you find it right to support slavery if a majority of the population backed a pro-slavery political party? Never is it acceptable to let the majority oppress the minority, for the simple fact that they are a majority. I believe this action also ties strongly into a free democratic state, especially regarding the issue of the media, whose job it is to watch the government and report to the citizenry. In that case jounalistic integrity is a must and they must be able to keep their sources confidential to serve properly as watchdog. I would think all would support them in this regard. That is, unless the parties currently in power have something to hide from the populace. |

Message | We must vote no on this, too often information is vital in a case, and to not have it could prove to be highly dangerous. |
