Bill: Aldegarian Self-Defense Act
Details
Submitted by[?]: Aldegar Liberty Party
Status[?]: defeated
Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.
Voting deadline: September 2133
Description[?]:
Currently the laws of Aldegar prevent its citizenry from owning firearms. This is a most grievous infringement upon the civil liberties of the populace. Most times people only think of firearms as protecting people from criminals, but there is a much grander proponent to gun rights. For only an armed populace may rise against an oppressive and tyrannical government. Men may lay their lives on the line for noble causes, but without the tools to bring about change, their sacrifice will be for naught. Firearms provide the final check of the populace against a government that would bring slavery, oppression, or death to its own populace. Recognizing the moderation of many of Aldegar's political parties in regards to this issue, the Neo-Libertarian party does not yet push for complete deregulation of firearm sales, but allowing licensed individuals to purchase firearms. |

Message | Have we never heard of the Velvet Revolution of the former Czechoslovakia? A nation which was not armed rose up and deposed the government by peaceful means without a shot being fired. And what of the rights of people who don't want to live in a community surrounded by armed gunmen? We see no reason for someone living in a suburban semi to own a gun. A ridiculous proposal! |

Message | Have you never heard of the America, French, and Russian revolutions? Revolution may be enacted without firearms, but that hardly means it always can and often force must be used. Again, I question the actions of the parties in power, if they are acting properly they would have no need to fear of a revolution and would support this measure fully. Move, you see no reason? Already we covered the topic of revolution, but guns are used every 13 seconds in self-defense, they are an important tool in protecting ones self and ones property. |

Message | We do not back this bill, we are strongly against using guns in all its forms, and are pushing for a ban on the police having lethal weapons. A life is too valuable to waste needlessly, tasers are much more preferable than guns, and protect just as well. |

Random fact: By default the head of government is the ultimate authority within a national government. In general terms, heads of government are expected to consult with cabinet colleagues (including those from other parties) before making significant decisions but they remain responsible for government action. |
