Message | This bill ends direct election of mayors - a clear anti-democratic move. |
Date | 19:17:49, December 15, 2009 CET | From | The Liberal Party | To | Debating the more reforms |
Message | It is not an anti-democratic move. It ends our mandate on local governments to have things done our way. That's anti-democratic. Just because we allow local governments to select their own method of appointment/election, it doesn't mean direct elections will cease to exist. That wold be a very silly assumption to make. However, we only support Articles 3 and 10. We oppose the others. Therefore, we will vote against this bill. |

Message | Ending a democratic mandate and allowing local governments to appoint mayors in whatever manner they see fit including undemocraticly is a seriosu reduction of democracy. Only the LP would argue against the blatantly obvious. |

Message | And why are you assuming that they will end a direct election. That's presumptious. But the URP is known to assume things in many occassions. |
