Bill: End of Aristocracy Proposal

Details

Submitted by[?]: Novy Smer Party

Status[?]: passed

Votes: This bill is a resolution. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.

Voting deadline: September 2133

Description[?]:

We propose to strip all aristocrats in Aldegar of their titles. Aldegar is a republic and so we should cut our ties with the days of the Monarchist Party who legalised slavery etc, etc, etc. This also means we can give a black eye to the Grand Duke of Hikirena and that must surely be very tempting to all parties except the Ducal Delegation.

MessageWe support this move. An aristocracy in this country would undermine our democratic institution.

MessageHis Grace received his title from God and not from the Grand Council. This proposal is an indecent, disrespectful, un-Aldegarian and outrageous act of anarchic social engineering and sacrilege. It is a foul attempt by the mediocre to drag everybody else down to their own level of mediocrity.

If this corrupt, socialist-fascist government refuses to recognise His Grace, His Grace will refuse to recognise this government. Let the scoundrels consider themselves warned!

MessageI see no reason to arbitraly deprive people of their titles, if the Grand Duke of Hikirena wishes to address himself as such, let him. What harm does it bring to the populace other than his Grace's over inflated self-worth?

MessageWe must admit this does seem a bit like petulance from the Novy Smers. As the Neo-Libertarians said, what harm does it bring to the populace?

MessageThe idea of aristocrats wandering around using these titles undermines the survival of the republican government. Such a move is not unusual, Czechoslovakia and Hungary both made the use of old aristocratic titles illegal between 1948 and 1989.

MessageI've read the text of this bill and it doesn't make it illegal for someone to call themselves a Duke, even though the Novy Smer might favour that. Rather, it strips their title of state recognition - it strips them of the formal, state-recognized title. It stops the state from endorsing and promoting aristocracy. This is therefore a libertarian bill, in our view, and we support it, unlike the libertarians.
