Bill: Lethal Force Proposal - Reintroduction
Details
Submitted by[?]: We Say So! Party
Status[?]: passed
Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.
Voting deadline: September 2133
Description[?]:
In order to make it statistically improbable that the Police will accidentally kill an innocent, the Police will be limited to non-lethal weapons in all standard situations including, but not limited to, standard patrols, call-outs etc. However, so as not to diminish the ability of the Police to stop armed suspects, elite specialist teams will still be allowed to carry and use firearms. These units will only be used when dealing with suspects who have shown that they have weapons, or there are strong reasons to believe they have, and show they are willing to use them. They would not be used on ordinary street incidents but on larger-scale operations where non-lethal weapons would not be deemed effective. Firing of the weapons would only be permitted in cases where other lives are at immediate risk and all shots will be aimed to stop, but not kill the suspect, wherever possible. Police officers in this scheme would have to undergo a minimum of one year of weapons training in order to instruct them on what responses will be needed in different situations. This will be only be open to the very best officers in both ordinary work and marksmanship, although acceptance of this will be purely voluntary. All officers will have to take a one week refresher course every 6 months along with a psychiatric test to determine whether they are still capable of the job and its related stresses. In most cases police officers will be only armed with standard firearms and not military level or automatic ones. They will also have access to non-lethal weapons during operations and these will be used wherever possible instead of full firearms. |

Message | You have our support. Giving police more guns increases the number of times when people are killed through their usage. Although we accept there are cases when firearms may be needed ordinary policing is not one of them. |

Random fact: "OOC", "IC" and "IG" are commonly-used acronyms in Particracy. "OOC" refers to comments, discussions and actions which are out-of-character, meaning they are done player-to-player rather than party-to-party. "IC" refers to in-character interactions (ie. party-to-party). Similarly, "IG" means in-game, although this term may also simply refer to what happens in the actual game interface, as opposed to on the forum or elsewhere. "RP" just means "role-play". |
